Tu Ba Yak Dasht Por Az Gul builds its declaration of love on a comparison of scale: the beloved is not likened to a flower — the ghazal tradition's standard move — but to an entire meadow in bloom. The enlargement matters. A flower can be picked, possessed, put in a vase; a flowering field can only be entered and been surrounded by. The song's tenderness comes from that surrender of possession.
