“I Have a Complaint”
Ahmad ZahirThe MastersStudio · Dari
I Have a Complaint — the formal lodging of a grievance, the beloved taken to account. The ghazal tradition's understanding that love gives the lover the right to complain.
About This Recording
I have a complaint — and the song means it formally, love treated as a contract the beloved has breached. The complaint, shekayat, is a recognized move: love creates obligations on both sides, and the beloved's coldness can be named as a failure to keep them. Zahir never lets it sound petulant. It sounds like a man who has weighed what he is owed and decided he hasn't received it, and the dignity of the delivery is what makes the grievance land as real rather than theatrical.
