I Have a Complaint treats love as a contract that has been violated — the speaker lodging a formal grievance against the beloved who has not fulfilled what love requires. In the classical tradition, the lover's complaint (shekayat) is a recognized mode: love is understood to create obligations on both sides, and the beloved's indifference or cruelty can be named as a breach.

Zahir's recording does not make the complaint sound petulant — it sounds like the statement of someone who has considered what they are owed and determined that they have not received it. The dignity of the delivery is what makes the complaint land as something genuine rather than something theatrical.
