Setara Deeda Frobast
“The Star Closed Its Eye”
Lyrics
Lyrics updated · July 2026English Translation
The star closed its eyes and rested — come Wine of light ran through the veins of night — come
You did not come when the sky held clusters of the Pleiades Now that the hand of dawn has picked them one by one — come
At the moment of my death if you come to visit fresh Be aware — that time has come — come
You are the hope of the silver-hearted broken one Do not keep me more hopeless than this — come

The star closed its eyes and rested — come; wine of light ran through the veins of night; you did not come when the sky held the Pleiades, now dawn has picked them away; at the moment of my death — come; you are the hope of the silver-hearted broken one.
About This Recording
Setara Deeda Frobast — The Star Closed Its Eyes and Rested — is a summons poem, each stanza ending with the single word 'come' (bia). The summons is issued against a background of astronomical change: the star has rested, the Pleiades have been picked away by dawn. Time is passing in the sky while the beloved has still not arrived.
'You did not come when the sky held clusters of the Pleiades / Now that the hand of dawn has picked them one by one — come' — the Pleiades (parvin) appear at specific times of year, and their departure with dawn is regular and observable. The beloved's failure to come spans the entire arc of their visibility; now that they are gone, the invitation is renewed. The astronomical detail is not decorative but temporal: this much time has passed, and you still haven't come.
'At the moment of my death if you come to visit fresh / Be aware — that time has come — come' — the invitation extended to the moment of death is the most extreme form of the summons. The urgency 'be aware — that time has come' collapses the conditional into the present. The silver-hearted broken one (naqra-del shekaste) waiting in hope is the final image: silver (naqra) for something once valuable and now bent, a heart that has been broken but retains its material, still hoping for the arrival that the poem keeps addressing.
