Give me wine, give me wine — the oldest vein of Persian song, where asking for the cup is at once a plea for release from the ordinary world and a summons to love's intoxication. The doubling, 'mara mara', is the demand refusing to be said once and left alone. Zahir keeps the Sufi reading available without forcing it. Heard one way it is a man asking for a drink; heard another, a seeker asking to be dissolved. The recording lets both stand.
