من در سرای تو
Man Dar Saraye Tu
“I Am in Your Inn”
Lyrics
Lyrics updated · July 2026English Translation
In your abode I have a different tumult from cup and vessel Whoever sees me says: here again comes that drunk and mad one
What I say, I say in safety — unaware of this one and that In your abode I read nothing but the tales of the familiar
In your abode I have a different tumult from cup and vessel Whoever sees me says: here again comes that drunk and mad one

In your abode I have a different tumult from cup and vessel — the beloved's dwelling as the site of spiritual transformation, where ordinary passersby see only the familiar signs of intoxication.
About This Recording
'In your abode I have a different tumult from cup and vessel' — the 'abode' (saray) might be the beloved's house in the literal sense, but 'tumult from cup and vessel' places it immediately in Sufi geography: the tavern (kharabat), the gathering where wine and sacred intoxication are indistinguishable. The speaker carries this inner tumult into the beloved's specific dwelling.
'Whoever sees me says: here again comes that drunk and mad one' — the external world recognizes the visible symptoms of the mystic state. In classical Sufi poetry, the mast (drunk) and deewana (mad) are recognized figures whose behavior marks them, even to those who cannot understand its source. The speaker is known in this neighborhood as someone whose condition recurs — 'here again.'
The repetition of the first couplet at the poem's end is structural: the poem returns to where it began without resolving anything. The tumult is not calmed; the opinion of onlookers is unchanged. This circular form, common in ghazal, performs the constancy of the speaker's state — the poem ends as it began because the speaker is still there, still arriving, still in tumult.
