You Know, My Flower — a tender address using the floral endearment, 'gule man' (my flower), in the intimate mode that runs through the entire Persian lyric tradition.

About This Recording

You know, my flower — 'gule man', the most common of the Persian endearments, the beloved as the flower the whole poetry keeps returning to: beautiful, fragrant, seasonal, and, with the thorn, capable of wounding. The 'you know' that opens it assumes the beloved already understands what's coming, the love so plainly shown that saying it aloud is nearly redundant. And still it gets said, because in this tradition love wants the testimony of the spoken word.
