The second section details the breach of promise in the language of contractual failure: 'What covenants you failed to keep, what mischief you made.' In the ghazal tradition the covenant (ahd or payman) is a moral category — breaking it is not just emotional betrayal but a kind of spiritual failure that the beloved will eventually have to account for.
