رفت از برم دلستان
Raft Az Baram Dilsetan
“My Heart-Thief Has Gone from Me”
Lyrics
Lyrics updated · July 2026English Translation
My sweetheart left from my side — day and night in lamentation O sky, O sky, O sky, O sky
Do not wink, O sun Her eyes have fallen into sleep You might be undone By one movement of someone's hair
Tonight what a storm you are making O tears in the lane of someone Let us both wander door to door Mad over someone

My sweetheart left from my side — day and night in lamentation, O sky; do not wink, O sun — she has fallen into sleep; tonight what a storm you are making, O tears; let us wander door to door, mad over someone.
About This Recording
Raft Az Baram Dilsetan — My Sweetheart Left From My Side — opens with the basic fact of departure and immediately escalates into apostrophe: the sky is addressed, then the sun. 'O sky, O sky' — the repetition performs distress, the kind of outburst that reaches for the largest available audience when the human world has failed. The sky is invoked not because it can help but because it is there and everything else is gone.
'Do not wink, O sun / Her eyes have fallen into sleep / You might be undone / By one movement of someone's hair' — the instruction to the sun not to wink is a plea for stillness: if the sun winks (blinks, moves, changes), it risks being destroyed by the beloved's sleeping presence. The beloved's hair, even in sleep, is powerful enough to undo the sun. This is hyperbole in service of grief: the beloved is so present in the speaker's mind that even the sun must proceed carefully.
The final stanza turns outward and collective: 'Let us both wander door to door / Mad over someone' — the 'us both' invites a companion (perhaps the speaker and their grief, perhaps the speaker and the sky that has been addressed) into a shared madness. The wandering from door to door mad over someone is Majnun's biography compressed into a single image: love's final, visible social form is wandering.
