English Translation

I wish, like a hidden secret, that no trace remain of me So that from my absence and presence no one has news

Give me a grave, O God — a prison for this body of mine So that from seeking pretexts the heart is no longer homeless

I wish that fire would fall on the city of acquaintance And from the shame of those who know me, no trace remain

Transliteration

Khaham cho raze penhan az man asar nabashad Ta az nabood o boodam, kas raa khabar nabashad

Gore bedeh Khodaya! zendan-e paykar-e man Taa az bahana joyee, dil darbadar nabashad

Khaham ke aatash oftad dar shahr-e aashnayee Wa-az nang-e aashenayan, bar jaa asar nabashad

I wish no trace remained of me — like a hidden secret. The speaker asking for a grave as a prison for the body, wishing fire on the city of acquaintance so the shame of being known would vanish.

About This Recording

Khwaham Cho Raze Penhan — I Wish, Like a Hidden Secret — is a poem about the desire for erasure. Not death exactly, but the disappearance of all traces: absence and presence alike generating news that the speaker wants stopped. The secret as the model for this disappearance is precise: a secret is something that exists but cannot be known. The speaker wants to exist in the same way.

'Give me a grave, O God — a prison for this body of mine / So that from seeking pretexts the heart is no longer homeless' — the grave requested as structure, not end. The heart homeless because it keeps finding new causes for its condition; a grave would at least provide a fixed address.

The most striking line: 'I wish that fire would fall on the city of acquaintance / And from the shame of those who know me, no trace remain.' The desire is not to stop being known but to destroy the context that makes being known shameful. If the city burns, the witnesses are gone.
