English Translation

Tonight in memory of your face I will make an uproar, make an uproar I will give my heart over to grief, I will complain much to the world

Tonight in memory of your love, with my own tears I will be alone I will lament so much until I raise a flood of blood

You laugh at my pure love and say I am mad Yes, I am mad by nature — with goblet and flask I carry on

خندی به عشق پاک من ، گويی که من ديوانه ام آری من ديوانه خو، در ساغر و مينا کنم

Tonight in memory of your face I will make an uproar — grief performed as event, as noise, as flood. The speaker announces his planned suffering to the world, then confirms he is mad by nature and carries on with goblet and flask.

About This Recording

This song is a declaration of intent: the speaker is not simply going to grieve quietly, but will 'make an uproar' and 'complain much to the world.' The public nature of this grief is deliberate — in the ghazal tradition, love's suffering is witnessed, announced, performed. The beloved should know, and so should everyone else.

'I will lament so much until I raise a flood of blood' — the escalating scale of the grief-event is characteristic of the ghazal's hyperbolic logic. Tears become blood; the flood is not figurative; the speaker intends to drown the world in evidence of what he is feeling.

The final turn is typically Zahir: 'You laugh at my pure love and say I am mad / Yes, I am mad by nature — with goblet and flask I carry on.' The accusation of madness is accepted, even adopted, and then immediately countered with a statement of method. The speaker doesn't protest the diagnosis — he confirms it and explains how he manages.
