Che Shod Ke Rekht O Ba Ham
“What Happened That It Fell and Together”
Lyrics
Lyrics updated · July 2026English Translation
What happened that our nest was ruined again Why was the warp and woof of our home torn asunder
Did your heart not burn — why did you give this handful of feathers To the wind and fire of injustice — our nest
Do not seek to harm us, for I fear The world will scatter our nightly lament to the wind

What happened that our nest was ruined again — why was the warp and woof of our home torn? A handful of feathers given to the wind and fire of injustice, the nightly lament in danger of being scattered.
About This Recording
'What happened that our nest was ruined again' — the word 'again' (baz) is the most significant in the poem. The nest has been ruined before. This is not the first destruction; it is the recurring one. The question 'what happened?' in the face of a repeating pattern is part lament and part accusation.
'Why was the warp and woof of our home torn asunder' — the textile metaphor (taar o poor, warp and woof) figures the relationship as a woven fabric. To tear the warp and woof is to destroy not just the surface but the structural threads that made coherence possible. What is destroyed is the weave itself, not merely a portion of it.
'Did your heart not burn — why did you give this handful of feathers / To the wind and fire of injustice' — the nest made of feathers (par) is a beautiful and fragile image. A handful of feathers given to wind and fire disappears without resistance. The poem ends with a fear: that the world will scatter the nightly lament to the wind, which is to say that even the record of the loss will not survive.
