Bahd Az Khuda Yagana Khudaye

Bahd Az Khuda Yagana Khudaye is one of the most structurally spare declarations in Zahir's catalog. Its method is pure repetition: every line is sung twice, the affirmation doubled until it becomes a kind of incantation. The beloved is named the sovereign of the speaker's heart — the one who holds authority there above all else — and the complete mirror, meaning the one in whom the speaker's inner life is fully reflected back.

The phrase 'I have placed my trust in your hands' (the second stanza) captures the poem's emotional logic: this is an act of deliberate surrender, not a condition the speaker stumbled into. Trust was placed, consciously, in the beloved's hands. The repetition of this line within the stanza reinforces that the speaker is not confused about what they have done. The doubling is the form of certainty.

'O harp of grief, companion to my tears / Strike a chord — for the melody-maker of my heart is you' — the harp (chang) is addressed directly as witness and participant. The harp weeps through its music; the beloved is named the melody-maker, the source of the music the harp plays. This is the song's final move: the beloved not as the object of the song but as its generative cause. Zahir the performer, addressing an instrument that produces grief's music, locates the beloved at the origin of everything that follows.
