Go away from me — I trouble the heart, unreliable, weak, full of sin. The speaker's petition to God: this is not a heart you gave me; plunged in blood, let it go free, or bind it in the chain of love.
About This Recording
Az Peshe Man Beraw — Go Away from Me — takes up the warning-to-the-beloved structure (as in Az Man Begurized and Man Randa Ze Maikhana) but extends it into a direct address to God about the heart's condition. The beloved is warned away; God is then petitioned for an explanation or a remedy.
'O God, how shall I speak of you? / For from my own body I am tired and disgusted' — the exhaustion with the self is phrased as an inability to pray adequately. One cannot speak of God from a position of complete self-disgust; the speaker is trapped between the condition he is in and the one he would need to be in to address it.
'This is not a heart — this heart you gave me / Plunged in blood — let it go free / Either keep it empty of desire and passion / Or bind it in the chain of love and faithfulness.' The petition to God offers two options: eliminate the heart's capacity for desire entirely, or give it something stable to desire. The speaker cannot continue in the current state — submerged in blood but not attached to anything that would justify the bleeding.
