Ajab Sabre Khuda Darad is one of the more theologically audacious songs in Zahir's catalog — not because it attacks faith, but because it tests divine patience against human injustice and finds divine patience harder to explain than human anger. The conditional structure 'If I were in His place, I would destroy the world' is a devotional complaint, not a blasphemy, in the tradition of Islamic poetry that addresses God with frank grievance.
The three examples of injustice the speaker cannot endure are precisely chosen: a conscienceless creature's oppression (universal), hungry neighbors beside a warm feast (social), and the naked beside the heavily robed (economic). Together they form a complete indictment of the social order — and the argument that God's patience in the face of these things is not a virtue the speaker can share.
Recorded well before the 1978 Saur Revolution, the song acquired different resonances when Ahmad Zahir was performing under a communist regime that claimed to be rectifying these exact inequalities while creating its own. The audience that heard it in 1979 heard a man asking God's patience about injustice while that audience was watching injustice administered by those who had named themselves its enemies.
